The Dove Foundation

Dove Family Approved Seal

To encourage and promote the creation, production, distribution and consumption of wholesome family entertainment.

The Dove Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage the creation, production, distribution and consumption of family friendly entertainment.

In 1991 The Dove Foundation began promoting family-friendly entertainment. Their standards and criteria are based on Judeo/Christian values, free from the pressure of commercial interests. They take a positive approach of commending high-quality, wholesome movies rather than condemning filmmakers for not meeting those standards.

Dove produced “Hollywood’s Impact on Family Values,” a television special hosted by Steve Allen. Dove also initiated its first Dove Family Film Festival® as well as its first Dove Movie Marathon®. They developed The Dove Movie Channel® for hospitalized children debuted in partnership with Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities.

The Dove Foundation commissioned the Profitability Study of MPAA-Rated Movies to examine revenues and negative costs for widely released movies from 1988-1997. The study was updated in 2005.

Benefits of Using the Dove Seal

The Dove Seal on "Family Approved" titles promotes family oriented movies and DVDs. The Dove Foundation does this by awarding certain titles the Dove Family Approved Seal for wholesome entertainment, free from commercial influence, and has gained the respect of tens of millions of consumers around the nation.
